Meeting of Minister Demerdziev with Kari Johnstone, acting Director of the Office to Monitor and Combat Trafficking in Persons at the US Department of State

Deputy Prime Minister for Public Order and Security and Minister of Internal Affairs Ivan Demerdzhiev held a meeting with Kari Johnstone, Acting Director of the Office to Monitor and Combat Trafficking in Persons at the US State Department, during her visit to Bulgaria.

The main topic of the conversation was the actions taken by Bulgaria to increase the effectiveness of the fight against human trafficking, in the context of the preparation of the Annual Report of the US State Department on human trafficking for 2022/2023. Minister Demerdzhiev informed the American side of the emergency measures taken in the last few months, aimed at strengthening the capacity of the Commission to combat human trafficking and the preparation of an action plan with specific tasks and deadlines for all Bulgarian institutions involved in the problem. He emphasized the priority importance of the topic for the Bulgarian side, as well as the fact that the measures and activities taken are in line with the recommendations of the 2022 report.
