Police across Bulgaria observed the International Day of Remembrance for Fallen Law Enforcement Officers on March 7.
The day began with a one-minute moment of silence and blue lights activated on police vehicles. Wreaths and flowers were laid at memorials to officers who lost their lives in the line of duty across the country.
Minister of Interior Emil Dechev, together with representatives of the Ministry’s leadership and the National Bureau of INTERPOL in Bulgaria, laid a wreath at the monument to fallen police officers at St. Sedmochislenitsi Square in Sofia.
Ahead of the commemorative day, iconic landmarks around the world were illuminated in blue under the coordination of INTERPOL, symbolising the global law enforcement community. In Sofia, the National Palace of Culture (NDK) joined the global “blue wave”.
As an INTERPOL member state, Bulgaria participates in the international campaign “RFO – Remembering Fallen Officers.”
