Interior Minister Ivan Demerdzhiev Calls for Common EU External Border Security Standards

Bulgarian Interior Minister Ivan Demerdzhiev addressed the international conference “The Black Sea and Eastern Europe: Key to European Security”, highlighting Bulgaria’s ambition to make its land border with Türkiye and its Black Sea maritime border models for security across the EU.

The Minister stressed the need for common EU border security standards, modern surveillance technologies and stronger international cooperation.

He identified hybrid threats, critical infrastructure vulnerabilities, organised crime and emergency preparedness as major security challenges in the Black Sea region, particularly in the context of the war in Ukraine.

Minister Demerdzhiev emphasised that regional security and stability are essential foundations for economic growth and development.
