Bulgarian and Austrian Interior Ministers Highlight Improved Border Security

Bulgarian Interior Minister Ivan Demerdzhiev met with his Austrian counterpart Gerhard Karner in Vienna to discuss EU external border security, cooperation in the Black Sea region and bilateral security relations.

Both ministers highlighted significant improvements in security along the Bulgarian–Turkish border and a substantial reduction in irregular border crossings.

Minister Demerdzhiev emphasised the successful trilateral cooperation between Bulgaria, Türkiye and Greece, as well as support from the European Commission, Frontex and Austrian border officers.

The ministers reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening bilateral cooperation and European security.
