Bulgaria and ICMPD to Strengthen Cooperation on Migration Management

Bulgarian Interior Minister Ivan Demerdzhiev met with ICMPD Director General Susanne Raab in Vienna to discuss migration management, EU external border security and cooperation with countries of origin and transit.

Marking 30 years of Bulgaria’s membership in the International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD), the Minister highlighted the importance of sustainable partnerships, effective return and readmission policies, and support for EU frontline Member States.

Discussions also covered the EU Pact on Migration and Asylum, the Budapest Process and joint initiatives to combat irregular migration, migrant smuggling and human trafficking.

Minister Demerdzhiev reaffirmed Bulgaria’s commitment to closer cooperation with ICMPD and invited Susanne Raab to visit Bulgaria.
