Counseling Psychology
Today, the experts from the sector are mainly involved in the following activities:
• organizational consulting
• individual and family consulting
• carrying out training and courses
• carrying out debriefing sessions following incidents
• management of stress in critical situations
Through the years, sector “Consultative psychology” has had its own development and changes. The beginning is put in the late 90s, when the activities in the line of the individual psychological consulting and the debriefing sessions are carried out by psychologists who work in the sector “Psychological assistance of investigative activities”. A psychological consulting office was established at the Medical station in the Capital Directorate of the Ministry of Interior.
In the month of April 2002 all of the consulting activities are focused in an isolated sector, called “Psychological prophylaxis and consulting”. The sector concentrates on the problems of the professional stress of the officers in the MoI, because stress at the work place is considered to be the number one destabilizing factor in the police and fire fighting professions.
The leading aim of the professions who work in that sector is professional growth and actualization. In that connection, the experts who work in the Institute are qualified in individual psychotherapy, system-oriented psychotherapy, psychodrama and EMDR-therapy, as well as organizational consulting. The priorities of the experts are focused on the individual, as well as on the organizational psychological assistance.
In 2009, the name of the sector changes to “Consultative psychology”. Its line of work expands and the accent falls on organizational consulting.
